Quiz Soludo’s opponents over political assassination attempt – APGA

The All Progressives Grand Alliance has alleged that the attack on a former governor of the Central Bank, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, on Wednesday was politically motivated.

In a statement in Awka on Thursday, the National Coordinator of APGA Media Warriors, Chinedu Obigwe, said, “The attack on Soludo at Isuofia Civic Centre by yet-to-be-identified gunmen was a politically motivated assassination attempt.

“To unmask those behind the attack, there is a need for security agents to beam their searchlight on Soludo opponents. Soludo’s miraculous escape from the assassins has shown that the hand of God is upon his life.

“Some people are seeing the forthcoming November 6 governorship election as a do-or-die affair and some of them are of the belief that Soludo’s emergence as Governor Obiano’s successor will send them to political retirement hence the reason why eliminating him is a viable option for them.”

While sympathising with the families of the killed cops, Obigwe urged security agents to rescue the Commissioner for Public utilities that was abducted by the gunmen.

We’ve arrested five, say police

Meanwhile, the Anambra State Police Command on Thursday said it had arrested five suspects in connection with the attack Prof. Chukwuma Soludo.

The police had earlier in a statement said one suspect was tracked and arrested through a telephone picked at the scene of crime.

Soludo was attacked on Wednesday by gunmen in his hometown during a meeting with some youths at the Isuofia Civic Centre in the Aguata Local Government Area of the state.

Three policemen attached to him were killed in the attack.

The former CBN boss is a frontline aspirant in the November 6 governorship poll in Anambra on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Ikenga Tochukwu, in a statement Thursday night, said four more suspects had been arrested.

“Police operatives attached to Anambra State Command today, April 1, 2021, have arrested four additional suspects in connection with the recent attack and gruesome murder of three policemen at Isuofia Civic Centre in Aguata LGA of Anambra State.

“The suspects are Mbah Victor, 30, John Olisakwe, 21, Chigozie Omeh, 20, and Emmanuel Nnobi, 28.

He added, “The suspects confessed to have actively taken part in the attack and subsequent abduction of the Commissioner for Public and Utilities, Emeka Ezenwanne, which the Command is working assiduously to rescue.

“Consequently, efforts are still ongoing to apprehend other fleeing accomplices, unravel the circumstances surrounding the incidence and bring perpetrators to book.”

Earlier, the police in the statement said they had beefed up security around ex-CBN boss, his house and community.

The PPRO added, “The CP had visited Soludo to reinforce the security in his house and the community.”

Attacks on Ebonyi, Soludo sign things’re falling apart – Rep

Meanwhile, the Deputy Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Toby Okechukwu, has described the recent killings by suspected armed herdsmen in Ebonyi State, the attack on former governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, and the prevailing killings across the country as ominous indications that things are falling apart.

Okechukwu, in a statement issued on Thursday, warned that the country was already “neck deep into a season of anomie, which if not immediately arrested, would spell doom for the country.”

The lawmaker, who represents Aninri/Awgu/Oji River Federal Constituency in Enugu State, issued the warning in the statement titled, ‘Ebonyi massacre: Things are falling apart, Reps Deputy Minority Leader warns…condemns the attack on Soludo…calls for arrest, prosecution of culprits.’

Okechukwu said, “This continuous carnage as evident from the attack in Ebonyi is a clear indication that things are really falling apart. This massacre of hapless citizens is another sad reminder that we are in a season of anomie where innocent people are unexpectedly mowed down in cold blood without consequences.

“It is unbelievable that non-state actors brandishing AK-47 and other lethal weapons can hold a nation-state of over 200 million people to ransom, undetected, unchallenged and without any consequences.”
