Winning fight against virus not easy task, says AbdulRazaq


Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq on Wednesday said the battle against COVID-19 is no mean task.

The governor, therefore, appreciated the efforts of medical personnel in the fight against the pandemic in the state, empathizing with those who had contracted the virus.

Speaking while the opening of Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), mini sports center, in Ilorin, AbdulRazaq represented by Commissioner for Health, Dr. Raji Razaq, wished those that had been infected speedy recovery.

NMA had on Monday this week, said about 35 members of the association had tested positive for the virus, with no casualty.

The NMA chairman, Dr. Kolade Solagberu, praised the state government on its achievements particularly, in health, while he appealed to the state government to consider payment of inducement and hazard allowance, including tax rebate for doctors.

Meanwhile, the President of Association of Resident Doctors, University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH) Chapter, Dr. Lanre Olosunde, has said 12 doctors who tested positive for COVID-19 have recovered.

Olosunde told journalists on Wednesday that the 12 doctors were infected in the line of duty.

He said most of the doctors had moderate symptoms, adding that the association had already taken proactive measures against the disease.

“We actually sensitized our members and that went a long way to help our members to prepare for the scourge.

“We had cause to write to the DG of Nigeria Centre for Disease and Control (NCDC), the Federal Government via our national body to help us and we got donations of Personal Protective Equipment from them.
