Benue State Government has expressed readiness to begin distribution of palliative of various food items to poor people in the state to cushion the impact of the lockdown caused by the corona virus pandemic.
Benue State Deputy Governor and Chairman, Benue State Action Committee on COVID-19, Engr. Benson Abounu made this known at Government House, Makurdi, when Fanendo Adi, a Benue-born U.S based footballer made a donation of a truckload of 10kg rice to the State Action Committee on COVID-19.The donation was made on behalf of Fanendo Adi by Prof Mvendaga Jibo, accompanied by Christopher Ikyumen Adi, father of Fanendo and other members of the Adi family.
Engr. Abounu acknowledged the donations and appreciated the contributions of Adi to the development of Benue State.
He added, ”This young man who is based far away in United States of America (USA), yet has the interest of Benue at heart. He has demonstrated the popular cliché of the future actually belonging to the Youths. The young has a history of giving back to his root. His experience has impacted his home land and he has desired the development of the state.”He further stated that the donated palliative, which is meant for the very poor in the society will be added to the ones earlier donated by other donors, and subsequently distributed to people in the 3 senatorial zones of the state. He explained that the Committee is awaiting the donation by the private sector-led coalition against COVID-19, (CACOVID) for the distribution to commence.
Earlier, the leader of the delegation, Prof. Mvendaga Jibo, commended the Benue State Government for its resilience in the fight against the spread of the ravaging pandemic.
According to Prof Jibo, the donor, who is a young man less than 30 years has an upbringing that is well rooted in the teachings of the Church.
He explained that his Christian upbringing has so influenced his orientation and perspective towards life and this has been the driving force of his generosity and passion for the development of Benue State.
The father of the donor Chris Adi and his brother Terzungwe Angyo led other members of the family to present the trailer load of rice .
