Our attention has been drawn to the increasing rumours, speculations, misrepresentations and misinterpretations from some unsuspecting members of the public, resulting from the recent meeting of Benue State stakeholders meeting on peace and security at the People’s(Government)House,Makurdi, wherein the Honourable Minister of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs,Senator George Akume, fnim ably participated as a former Governor,Senator and now a serving Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and leader of the All Progressives Congress(APC) in Benue State.
With due regards to above and at the height of the lingering rumours, misinformation and misinterpretations,it has become expedient to strengthen the following facts and make them well known to those who may be in the dark over Senator George Akume’s participation in that meeting at the instance of the Governor Samuel Ortom’s invitation and other matters therein.
To the above effect, we wish to state as follows:
1. Senator Dr. George Akume, fnim was at the Benue State Stakeholders meeting on peace and security to make contributions and proffer solutions that are in the overall interest of stability, peace and unity of Benue people, regardless of political party affiliations, sentiments and bias.
2. Senator George Akume, fnim DID NOT and has NEVER made any plans and arrangements for Governor Samuel Ortom to decamp to the All Progressives Party(APC), neither was anything of such discussed at that stakeholders meeting or in any closed door meeting.
3. Senator George Akume, fnim is a leader who believes in the dictum and rational basis of participatory democracy/consultative engagement with his followers and party members over essential decisions that affect his party. To this extent, decisions such as the the rumoured and misrepresented analogy that he is making arrangements to bring Governor Samuel Ortom back into the APC is totally untrue,as such a step cannot be taken without due consultations, deliberations and inputs of his party stakeholders in the Benue State.
4. The Honourable Minister remains resolute in ensuring that good governance takes precedence in Benue State as the opposition leader of the All Progressives Congress(APC) in the state, and wishes to encourage all his party members to remain in firm in the objectives of the party.
Thank you and God bless
Dr. Aondona Mkor
Media and Public Affairs Consultant/Adviser to the Honourable Minister
